Why it exists
Merging the PDFs of an assignment, combining quarterly spreadsheets or shrinking photos to email them are small tasks that come up all the time. Most websites that handle them ask you to upload your files to their servers — and those files are often notes, payslips, bank statements or work documents that shouldn't leave your device.
Zero7Files takes a different approach: your own browser does all the work. Your files are read into your device's memory, transformed there and the result downloads straight away. There's no server receiving them and no copy left anywhere.
How it works under the hood
Modern browsers can run very capable programs. Zero7Files relies on well-known open-source libraries:
- pdf-lib to merge, split and create PDFs.
- pdf.js (by Mozilla) to read the text of PDFs when converting them to eBooks.
- SheetJS to read and write Excel and CSV files.
- JSZip to create and open ZIP files.
- sql.js to read SQLite databases.
- marked to turn Markdown into HTML.
The scientific calculator is our own work. It behaves like a natural-display calculator: it types fractions, roots and integrals in 2D and has twelve modes (complex numbers, matrices, vectors, statistics with regressions, distributions, equations, inequalities, tables and a small spreadsheet). You can also use it with your computer keyboard.
How it's funded
Zero7Files is free and has no paid plans. It's kept running by Google AdSense ads shown in fixed spaces on the page. You'll never have to watch an ad to use a tool. Details are in the privacy policy.
Where we're heading
The site keeps evolving, and many improvements come from people who use it — like drag-and-drop support or the calculator's natural input. If something's missing or you find a bug, write to us from the contact page.
