Convert CSV and JSON to Excel (and back)

Banks, survey platforms, accounting software and APIs export their data as CSV or JSON. These tools turn it into an Excel sheet ready for filtering and pivot tables — or go the other way.

Open CSV ⇄ Excel Open JSON ⇄ Excel

From CSV or TXT to Excel

  1. In the Pro Arsenal tab, choose CSV ⇄ Excel with the direction TXT/CSV → Excel.
  2. Pick or drop your .csv or .txt file.
  3. Press Process. Data.xlsx downloads.

Separators and quotes

Not every CSV uses commas. Files exported with European settings often use semicolons (because the comma is the decimal separator there), and others use tabs. The tool detects the separator automatically from the first line.

It also handles quoted fields, so a value like "Smith, John" stays in a single cell even though it contains the separator. Doubled quotes inside a field ("") become a normal quote.

Numbers

Values that are clearly numbers with a dot as decimal separator (for example 12.5) are stored as numbers so you can add them up in Excel. Everything else is stored as text. If your file uses a comma as decimal separator, Excel may treat those values as text; use Data → Text to Columns to convert them.

From Excel to CSV

Press ⇄ to switch to Excel → CSV, choose a workbook and press Process. The first sheet is exported to Data.csv using commas, the most widely compatible format for other apps and databases.

From JSON to Excel

  1. Choose JSON ⇄ Excel with the direction JSON → Excel.
  2. Load a .json file. It works best with a list of objects, such as [{"name":"Ann","age":31},{"name":"Luke","age":28}]: each object becomes a row and each key a column. A single object becomes a single row.
  3. Press Process to download Data.xlsx.
If your JSON has objects inside objects (an address with street and city, for example), those columns show up as unreadable text. In that case, flatten the JSON first — or, if your data also exists as XML, use XML ➔ Excel, which does merge nested levels into columns like address.city.

From Excel to JSON

Switch the direction with ⇄ to Excel → JSON. The first sheet is exported as a list of objects, using the first row as key names, in an indented, easy-to-read Data.json.

Why do it in the browser?

Bank statements, customer lists and survey answers are personal data. With Zero7Files the conversion is done by your browser with the SheetJS library and a built-in CSV reader: the data is never sent to a server.
