Convert XML to Excel
XML is widely used to export product catalogues, e-invoices, public-sector listings or app data. Reading it by hand is tedious: this tool turns it into an Excel table.
Step by step
- In Pro Arsenal, choose XML ➔ Excel.
- Pick or drop your
.xmlfile. - Press Convert.
Data.xlsxdownloads.
How it decides what a row is
The tool looks at the elements directly under the document's root. If they're all the same kind, each one is a row. If there are several kinds (a header and many products, say), it picks the one that repeats the most — usually the data you care about.
Within each row:
- Each child element with text becomes a column with its name.
- Attributes become columns starting with
@. - Nested elements are flattened with dots.
Example
This XML:
<catalog><product id="7"><name>Pencil</name><price>0.5</price><supplier><country>ES</country></supplier></product>…</catalog>
becomes a table with the columns @id, name, price and supplier.country, and one row per product.
If you get an error
- "Invalid XML": the file has a formatting error, such as an unclosed tag or an unescaped special character. Open it in an editor that validates XML to find the line.
- Lots of empty columns: this happens when rows have different fields. It's normal — Excel shows every column that appears in any row.
- Repeated elements inside a row (several lines of an invoice, for instance): only the last value is kept. In those cases, extract that part of the XML separately.
Privacy
The XML is parsed with your browser's built-in reader and the sheet is created with SheetJS on your device. No data is sent to a server.
